Church of the Meeting of the Lord

professional street, 65, the city of Dmitrov, Moscow region

Description:

The first Church of the Meeting of the Lord appeared in the seventeenth century. It was wooden and looked completely different. She served as long as she could. The temple building collapsed due to dilapidation. After a long time, no one remembered her. And in 1812 after the Great Patriotic War in the region began to build churches in honor of the victory over the French.

Thus, the Temple of the Meeting of the Lord has undergone a second birth. Construction of the monastery was completed in 1814. The money for this good cause was allocated by local merchants - Korovyov and Bolshakov. Their savings were enough for a small modest church, which, by the way, has survived to this day. In Soviet times it was not easy.

During the period of persecution of the Orthodox, the temple, like many others, was closed. Rich utensils were stolen, priests and priests were taken to concentration camps, and the building was given to a grain warehouse. Everything returned to its place only in 1992. Today the church is open to visitors.
