Monument to Yuri Dolgoruky
Soviet Square, Dmitrov, Moscow Region, Russia
Description:
The monument to Yuri Dolgoruky in Dmitrov was opened on June 29, 2001. The monument was designed and cast by sculptor Vadim Mikhailovich Tserkovnikov.
According to legend, the monument is located in the very place where Yuri predicted the birth of his son, after which he ordered to lay the city on this land. The monument is cast in bronze, as well as its more famous brother, located on Tverskaya, but Yuri Dolgoruky in Dmitrov cast without a horse, because, in the opinion of the sculptor, Yuri Dolgoruky is closer to the people and so better reflected his democratic views.
