City theater
The Evpatoria Theater named after A.C. Pushkin is a city theater built in Evpatoria in 1910 according to the joint project of the city architect Adam Heinrich and the free architect Pavel Seferov. The theater was opened on April 20, 1910. The first production on the stage of the theater was the opera Ivan Susanin by Mikhail Glinka. The production was played by actors of the Mariinsky Theatre, specially invited from St. Petersburg.
Until 1937, the theater was called the city theater, and on the day of the centenary of the death of Alexander Pushkin was renamed in honor of the poet. A few years ago, the theater was renovated. The auditorium was expanded to 900 seats by increasing the number of stalls and reducing the number of lodges, the roof was repaired, but the facade of the building remained almost unchanged. At different times, Evgeny Vakhtangov, Maria Savina, Konstantin Stanislavsky, Leonid Sobinov, as well as Antonina Nezhdanova, Fedor Chaliapin and Alexander Vertinsky performed in the theater. Local architects Adam Heinrich and Pavel Seferov were invited to build the theater and develop the building project. Civil engineer A.L. Henrich (probably a graduate of the Institute of Civil Engineers in St. Petersburg) was a supporter of the very popular at that time style of “modern”, and P.Y. Seferov, who graduated from the architectural department of the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, was a representative of an academic school that continued the traditions of Russian classicism. Nevertheless, the architects managed to complement each other organically, and as a result, the building was compared in grace with the theater in Odessa. Initially, the theater was equipped with lodges and 750 seats. After the renovation, the auditorium was expanded to 900 seats.
The city theater is the best decoration of Evpatoria. The theater is located in a new city, is after Odessa one of the most beautiful theaters in the south of Russia. It is designed in a modernized Greek style and makes a great impression. The interior of the theater is also beautiful and is designed for 750 seats. From the terraces there are wonderful views of the sea. A large stage with all the adaptations makes it possible to stage all the scenery plays, even extravaganzas.
