On the territory of the synagogue there is a small exhibition dedicated to the life of Jews of the 20th century, and there is also an ethno-restaurant of Jewish kosher cuisine Eskin Kot. Here you can eat very good for very little money. After visiting the restaurant, you can walk through the territory and visit the synagogue itself. The ministers of the synagogue with great pleasure will give you a tour, tell about the history of this place and devote some of the secrets of their faith. You will not be asked for a symbolic fee, but you may be advised to leave a donation for the reconstruction of the synagogue. The history of the Yegiye Capai synagogue began in 1911 with the solemn laying of the first stone, which was attended by almost the entire Jewish community of the city. Money for the construction of the synagogue was collected among the community, and a significant contribution was made by the city Duma of Yevpatoria. The majority of the Jews of the community were engaged in construction and made a significant contribution to the construction of the synagogue. Therefore, already in 1912, the first public prayer took place within the walls of the open synagogue of Egiye Capai. Evpatoria synagogue is often called “crafted” because the majority of the community were artisans in various fields. Many took part in the construction of the Duvan House and other landmark constructions of the time. In the 30s of the 20th century, Egiye Capai was closed under general pressure from the party elite of the city and the general cult of Atheism in the country. Not only the synagogue, but also temples and mosques were closed. Yeghi Kapai was converted into a warehouse and transferred to the ownership of the city government. With the arrival of the fascists in 1941, the synagogue of Egie Capai was converted into a stable and destroyed the last remnants of its former beauty. After the war, the building changed hands and eventually came into disrepair. It was practically being prepared for demolition. Thanks to the Jewish community of the city, which intervened in such a blasphemous event, the synagogue was saved and not only saved, but its reconstruction began in 2003.
