Gatchina

Gatchina. Mysteries, mysteries and reality.

Description:

In 40 versts from St. Petersburg, to the south of the Northern capital, there is a city with a strange name Gatchina, whose history goes back centuries. On the one hand, Gatchina is 90 years younger than St. Petersburg, and on the other - 200 years older! This duality left an indelible imprint on the whole city, a mystical aura surrounds not only the architecture of the palaces and the park, but also the history of their inhabitants.
As a rule, Gatchina is associated with the name of Grand Duke Pavel Petrovich - the only legitimate son of Great Catherine and his famous Gatchina army.

But after all, the first owner was Grigory Orlov - a guards officer, a Breter and a happy pamper of chance. Any palace is, first of all, a reflection of the personality of the owner, it determines the architecture, contributes to the perfection of the house. By the situation, layout, location of the house, you can judge the nature of the owner.

Gatchina Palace is a real medieval castle, it is a canvas of myths and mysteries. But it is not only the castle that is of interest. Shrouded in the mystery of centuries, an underground passage hides a tunnel 120 meters long. It leads from the castle to the Silver Lake, which ends with a grotto with the poetic name “Echo”, and you will not see it anywhere else. “Talking Echo” will gladly answer your questions, for example, to the question “Who ruled us?” "Paul!" and "What flower is afraid of frost?"

It was on this secret move that Kerensky ran "in some strange dress", which gave rise to the version of his changing into a woman's dress.

Gatchina became the summer residence of the Catholic Order of Hospitallers, which is located in the Priory Palace. It is my pleasure to learn about the history of the ancient Order of the Knights of Malta.

Gatchina is the largest hunting grounds of the time of Great Catherine. Therefore, it is here that the Yeger Sloboda will be founded, and despite the occupation during the Great Patriotic War, unique wooden houses of Russian rangers with amazing carved shutters are still preserved.

The Love Pavilion and the Birch House in the park are a romantic tribute to the fashion of the time of Marie Antoinette. The park is good at any time of the year, but only these pavilions are open in summer.
