White Lake

Russia, Leningrad region, Gatchina

Description:

The White Lake is located in the Palace Park of the Gatchina Museum-Reserve. The lake was created artificially in the second half of the XVIII century. Due to the construction of a dam on the Teplaya River, the White Lake was born. It is relatively small, its length is slightly more than a kilometer, and its width is only 350 meters.

Under Empress Catherine the Second, the reconstruction of the entire park in the Gatchina district began. The white lake together with the silver steel in the center of the English garden, laid in the park. To give the lake picturesqueness and beauty, its shore was artificially cut, making small bays, capes, and in the lake itself created several small islets.

Now on the shore of the White Lake there are several beautiful pavilions and a boat station with rental of boats and catamarans. In the lake there are fish: roach, perch, carp, pike, pour. Sometimes you can see the muskrat, black swans come.
