The Great Iron Gate
Description:
It is noteworthy that the iron gates for a long age are quite like new ones. And this despite the fact that they were only repaired a couple of times.
As for the history of construction, the exact date of their appearance is still not known. The author of the project is also unknown. Researchers are sure that they were built by Kiryan Plastinin. The gates opened for the first time in late 1787. They were originally wooden. Two years later they were made of iron.
In 1881, a guardhouse worked near the gate. Every day there was a watchman, opening and closing the gates at the appointed hour.
During the Second World War, the Iron Gate was not damaged. In some places, loopholes were broken for shooting and only. The overall design remained unchanged.
To date, the gatehouse is a boat base, and the gate still performs its function, admitting and releasing visitors to the two parks.
