Description:
Sofia Glacier is one of the largest glaciers in the Russian Federation.
The glacier is located on the southern Chui ridge in the Kosh-Agach district of the Altai Republic.
At the foot of the glacier are two high-mountain lakes: Akkol (translated from the Altai language white lake) and Karakol (black lake). On the way to the glacier there are many mounds of the Scythian and Turkic periods, various petroglyphs, waterfalls, sand dunes, etc. Due to the difficulty of traveling to the foot of the glacier, nature is practically untouched by man.
