Secrets of Uimon Valley

Description:

Excursion in the Tolono tract, in front of the Turgunda stream. On a large glade high above the Katun River there are several stone sculptures of the Turkic period. In Altai, they are called kezer-tash, the stone of ancestors, the name is widespread - "Stone women".

The tour begins from the district center - Ust-Koks village, departure at 10-00. The road runs through Uimon Valley. Having overcome small transshipments and clamps of the Katun River, we enter the village of Tungur, from here begin hiking and horse-riding routes to Mount Belukha. At the end of the village is a monument. Sukhov, commander of the Red Guard detachment. Another 14 km along the Katun River along a picturesque, but rather heavy road, and we come to the place of an ancient Turkic burial - Log Tolono.

Seven Turkic stone sculptures were found at the Turgunda stream, 17 km from the village of Tungur on the left bank of the Katun River (Kubarev V.D., 1984). Among them are statues depicting only the face or silhouette of the head of a person. The face depicts eyebrows, eyes, nose, mustache, mouth, beard. On one of the sculptures there is a poorly intended ear. Two stone slabs depict a figure with a vessel in his right hand, with a belt and weapons. The right hand is bent at the elbow and holds a vessel close in shape to a cup or high bowl. The left hand is lowered on the handle of the saber or dagger (compresses it). The saber's in the waist. One of the statues under the belt shows a semicircular object, possibly a handbag. Unfortunately, not all the sculptures survived. There are now only 5 statues left.”

Lunch on the banks of Katuni. Many medicinal plants grow here. In summer on a hot day there is an amazing smell of strawberries and wormwood.
