Kolyvan Lake

Altai region. Zmeinogorsk district

Description:

Kolyvan Lake stretches on the territory of the Zmeinogorsk district. That in the southern part of the Altai Territory. Despite its modest size, the usual composition of the water, the reservoir is popular among tourists. A genuine interest is caused by its coastal zone, where rocks-remainers of natural granite rise everywhere, transformed over time into unusual forms.

Geologists say that instead of a lake, there used to be the edge of an ancient sea covering the West Siberian zone. The prolonged operation of the surf waves, and subsequently the sun, provided the appearance of unusual sculptures.

Not only the rocks-remainers famous lake. On its coast grows a water nut or rogulnik. Surprisingly, this plant belongs to the preglacial time, when it lived throughout Siberia. The ripe fruit of the tree is decorated with horns, which gave the name.

360 km in the direction of Barnaul is the village of Savvushka. From there you can walk or by car to the lake.
