Gorno-Altaysk

Kurai valley

chuisky tract, Republic of Altai

Description:

The Kurai Valley is the bottom of an intermountain basin surrounded by the Kurai and North Chui ridges. It is located in the Altai Republic, so there are almost no warm and favorable days, most of the time there is cold weather.

Naturally, the flora of this valley is poor, and this brings it closer to the desert steppes of Mongolia. The animal world is also not rich, there are mainly small rodents, hares, foxes and wolves.

However, this valley is interesting in that it has preserved traces of ripple currents. These are beautiful patterns in the fields left after the breakthrough of the Chui-Kurai glacial-underpond lake.

Also there are many archaeological sites: stone women, mounds and scribes on stones. The nearest settlements are the villages of Kurai and Kyzyl-Tash.
