Republican Museum of Local Lore named after A.V. Anokhin

659700, Altai Republic, Gorno-Altaisk, Choros-Gurkina str., 46

About the company:

The history of the A.V. Anokhin National Museum began in October 1918, when the chairman of the Karakoram-Altai District Council, the artist G.I. Choros-Gurkin acquired paleontological, archaeological and mineralogical collections, a scientific library and archive from the famous Siberian local historian N.S. Gulyaev. These materials formed the basis of the future museum.

Today, the museum houses the mummy of a woman of Pazyryk culture of the V-III centuries BC, who received the name of the “Kukok princess” among the people. In the courtyard of the museum there is a log log cabin of the tomb of the Scythian leader of the V-III centuries BC. It is the oldest and largest wooden burial chamber in the world. Shamanism as a special form of vision of the world is dedicated to a separate hall.
