Historical and archaeological research in Altai

Suffice it to mention the most high-profile recent sensational finds made by scientists on the territory of the Altai Mountains - this is the "Altai Princess", found on the Ukok plateau in 1993, and an open new species of ancient man, who lived 30-40 thousand years ago, fragmentary remains of which were found in the Denisova cave recently.

The ancient history of Altai is very interesting, from the shallow warm Altai Sea to the Scythian era. In the Altai preserved quite a lot of cave paintings relating to different times and eras. There are also little-studied megalithic complexes that served for various purposes (sanctuaries, altars, observatories).
