Mountainous country - origins of Siberian rivers

Not far from the border with Mongolia in the highlands at an altitude of 2000 meters are the origins of the large Siberian rivers Irkut and Oka-Sayanskaya. And only recently, roads were laid here, so these places remain as untouched as possible, and nature is pristine. It is possible to get by car to the lakes themselves, on the way almost near admiring the highest peaks of the Sayan Mountains (over 3000 meters).

Harsh and slightly frightening beauty, breathtaking. Majestic mountains, propping up clouds and cold streams, woven into powerful rivers, flowing with noise from the tops. The endless gave blue taiga, adjacent to alpine meadows, covered with a green carpet of grasses and flowers, and freely grazing horses.

- Lake Ilchir. This is the purity and freshness of the mountain air, these are snow-capped peaks and mountain passes, this is the source of Irkut and the ringing waterfalls of streams and rivers flowing into it. The lake has a very elongated shape, about 5.5 km long, and the width does not exceed 500 meters. Fishing camps are often seen.

- Lake Okinskoye. The Oka is the main river of the Okina region, the largest of all the rivers flowing from the Sayan Mountains. And it originates here, near a small lake not far from another large river Irkut. At the very source of the Oka River, it can be easily crossed, and it is hard to believe that in a few kilometers it will be difficult to cross even by car. The lake is located on the pass, the highest point of this road. And according to the Buryat tradition, a holy place is arranged here. Every traveler stops here to ask for a good road. There is also a real plague here!

- Noohan Daban Holy Gate. Pass from Irkut to the upper reaches of the Oka-Sayanskaya River. Here passed the old Okina horse trail and telephone line before the construction of the highway at the very end of the last century. It is located near the border with Mongolia. It is a rock with a large, about 4 meters in diameter, a through hole, under a through hole there is a small grotto. Going to war, Okina took with them from here stones, which served as amulets. As the legend goes, the epic hero Gesar Khan in pursuit of a magical silver fox paved the shortest path for himself, punching an arrow through the mountain wall, which became an obstacle on his path. That's how the sacred gate came into being. Here you can climb on foot from the road in just an hour, in addition to the most "leaky pass" you can admire the three thousand mountains around, as well as canyons of rivers.

A trip to this mountainous country can be carried out even in a day, but it is better to stop somewhere in the foothills of Sayan, at one of the resorts.
