Description:

The Church of Gregory of Neocaesarea is located in the historical part of the city of Irkutsk near the Trinity Church. Named in honor of the bishop, saint and theologian George. This is an Orthodox church, the first in history with a rotundal base. The date of its foundation is considered 1802.

The initial project was made by the architect Losev. The fate of the temple is not easy. More than once it was rebuilt, so the appearance has changed significantly.

The floods of 1829 and 1830 and the great fire of 1879 worsened the condition of the temple. Clear composition was lost, but as a historical monument preserved. Externally, it is a one-storey temple with a rotunda and four volumes. In style, it is possible to note the elements of baroque and classicism, testifying to the cultic architecture of this building. The decoration is quite modest. In the post-war period there was a planetarium.

The church is located in Krasnoflotsky lane. You can get there by tram number 1, 2, 4a to the stop "Chkalov Street".
