Description:

The current Irkutsk Cathedral Mosque is a cultural heritage of federal significance. It was first opened in 1897 by the Shafigullin brothers, merchants who sold part of their real estate for its construction.

In 1905, the wooden mosque was replaced by a stone one, which became one of the best decorations of Irkutsk.

In the 30-ies of the last century, the decision of the authorities abolished the mosque, dismantling the minaret. For about ten years in a row, its premises were used for housing and warehouse activities. Only in 2012, a large-scale reconstruction completely restored the mosque’s historical appearance.

The nearest stop to the mosque is the “Decembrist Square”. It can be reached by buses 42, 43 and 480, as well as by shuttle taxis 3, 5k, 98, 80 and 20.
