Ivanovo Square

p. Truda, Irkutsk, Irkutsk region 664011, Russian Federation

Description:

Ivanovo Square in Irkutsk is one of the oldest shopping places. It was founded in the late 18th century for the purpose of trade in various goods and used to be called the Small Bazaar.

At the bazaar it was possible to buy agricultural products and handicrafts. Some merchants sold their goods directly from the wagons, while others had shops and fixed shops to carry out the trade.

In the area of the Small Bazaar were located the estates of the house of famous merchants and their families, and stood out among them the house and shops of the merchant Trapeznikov. Its shops occupied almost the entire quarter and that is why the square was called Trapeznikovsky.

Here the trade boiled without stopping - there was daily trading turmoil. But among the usual trading days were the most saturated and crowded with the flow of people "bazaar days" - the square on such days could not cope with the flow of traders, and peasant ranks stretched along the neighboring street Ivanovskaya. The street thus became an extension of the market, and the square was named Ivanovskaya.

Currently, this place is called Labor Square. Tourists find it in Irkutsk is not difficult.
