ooh Griboyedova, 110, Irkutsk, Irkutsk region 664074, Russian Federation

Description:

The Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of the Mother of God is a local landmark of the city, a Roman Catholic church with a parish. Located near the student town. It has an interesting history.

The temple was built in two years thanks to the funds of Catholic communities of different countries and consecrated in 2000.

The site for the construction of the church was chosen by Bishop Jerzy Mazur. The cathedral does not conform to the standard canons of temple architecture. The two towers are connected high above the ground. The design resembles the mitre of the bishop. Above it is a simple steel cross.

The temple is truly holy, in its base laid stones from holy places from all over the world. The interior is striking with its richness: a jade altar, sculptures of the Mother of God and St. Joseph.

On the territory of the cathedral there is a small monastery, the inhabitants of which are several monks and priests. The church holds daily services, there is a Sunday school. About 200 people came. But organ concerts are enjoyed by all residents of the city.

You can get to the temple by public transport: tram No. 1 to the “Studgorodok” or buses No. 21, 54, 67 to the “Technical University”.
