Michael-Arkhangelsk Church
5th Army str., 59, Irkutsk, Irkutsk region 664025, Russian Federation
Description:
The Mikhail-Arkhangelsk Church is an Orthodox church located in the Novo-Lenino microdistrict on Obraztsova Street (you can walk from the Vostochny stop). This church is an object of cultural heritage of the Russian Federation, one of the few wooden churches of Russia, which survived after the advent of Soviet power and retained its original appearance.
The construction of the church on the territory of the Ascension monastery began in May 1872 and was consecrated in 1876. After the establishment of atheistic Soviet power, the Mikhail-Arkhangelsk Church was closed. But during the Second World War (in 1944), the church was reopened. Fortunately, it was not destroyed or damaged during the war.
The Mikhail-Arkhangelsk Church is working now: the temple receives visitors and maintains a website for parishioners.
