Description:
Nikola-Innokentyevsky temple is located on the left bank of the Angara River in Irkutsk. The temple rises near the railway station. Its foundation dates back to 1858.
In those days, the church was only on the right bank of the river, and during the period of icebreaking and flooding, it was difficult for parishioners from the left bank to get there. The headman of the right-bank church, merchant Malkov, initiated the construction of a new church, and the first services were held in 1859. In the pre-war period of our century, the church was closed and a cinema was organized in its building. Complete restoration of the temple in the ROC occurred only in 2003.
The architecture of the temple recreates elements of the classicism of that period: simple lines, a small dome, a strict form. Above the entrance gate is a bell tower with a poppies. The interior also corresponds to the general style: simple cornices and casings, line pilasters, gilded candlesticks. Not all church utensils returned to the temple after the revolution. Part of the icons today are the works of modern icon painters.
You can get to the temple by public transport to the railway station stop.
