Lake Echoy

Russia, Republic of Buryatia, Eastern Sayan Mountains, Munku-Sardyk Ridge

Description:

On the border of Russia and Mongolia, at the ascent on the Munku-Sadyk ridge there is a round lake Ekhoi. The name comes from the Buryat language, in translation means the source. The Muguvek River flows from Lake Echoi.

Echoi originates from glaciers, like most bodies of water in the Eastern Sayan. All year long, there are no glaciers near the lake. The water in the lake has a transparent turquoise shade, which certainly attracts tourists.

Fishing is allowed on the lake. Tourists, traditionally gathering on the banks of Echoi, used to breathe clean air here, collect berries, mushrooms. Active travelers climb to the top of the Munku Sadyk ridge, from there the lake looks even more beautiful.

You can get to the lake by leaving Irkutsk in the direction of the Tunkin valley. Already there, the road leads to the Munku Sadyk Ridge and the lake itself.
