Monument to Alexander III
Description:
The monument to Alexander III in Irkutsk was erected in honor of the Russian Emperor Alexander III in 1908 following the results of a competition announced in 1902. In Soviet times, as was customary, the monument was destroyed and rebuilt at the beginning of this century. 112 years have passed since the construction of the monument.
Massive majestic monument - what was the man to whom it was installed. The monument stands on a high pedestal and overlooks the Angara (upstream to meet ships). The total height is 13.45 m.
Academician R. R. Bach created a magnificent architectural and sculptural composition on the theme of the historical past of Siberia. The facade of the monument on four sides was decorated with coats of arms of the capitals of Siberia.
The monument stands on a beautiful embankment on the bank of the Angara. This is where the green line starts. From the monument to Alexander 3 there is an exit to the island of Youth and begins the main street of the city - K. Marx.
