Monument to Yakov Pokhabov in Irkutsk
Description:
On the Irkutsk embankment in honor of the 350th anniversary of the city, a monument to Yakov Pokhabov was erected. Little information has been preserved about this founder, so the layout of the obelisk was designed by a team of sculptors and architects.
The Russian pioneer played an important role in the foundation of Irkutsk.
In the 17th century, on the banks of the Angara by his decree, a prison was erected, almost ten years later a fortress was built, later a city grew at its base. A bronze sculpture of a Cossack standing on a granite pedestal is located in the heart of Irkutsk, next to the Cathedral of Epiphany. A huge monument was brought from Zhukovsky, its height is six meters, weighing five tons. The monument is the pride of the city and the decoration of the embankment. Tourists and wedding processions enjoy visiting the figure of a militant Cossack, laying flowers, taking pictures.
From the territory of the monument there is a picturesque view of the surrounding area. To visit the obelisk, you need to take a bus or taxi to the stop of the Kirov Square.
