Square 50 years of October is located on the south side of the central part of Irkutsk between Sedov and Baikal streets, near the stop "Diagnostic Center".
Locals say that in the 19th century this place was a Muslim cemetery.
In the year of the 50th anniversary of the USSR, in 1972, a monument "50 years of the USSR formation" was built on the territory of this square. The sculpture consists of beautiful blocks of pink granite, from the bottom is girdled with memorable bas-reliefs. The authors were sculptor V. Sokolov and architect A. Sokolov. In 2008, reconstruction was carried out. During it, an updated fountain opened, which became one of the highest in Irkutsk. The water composition consists of 48 water streams and is illuminated by about 100 floodlights, the height of the fountain reaches 14 meters.
