Description:
Decembrists Square is one of the most popular places in Irkutsk. It used to be called the Assumption. Here, indeed, there is something to see – museums, architectural monuments. At the entrance there is an obelisk to soldiers of Irkutsk who died in military conflicts abroad.
In the western part there is a bowing cross in memory of the Cossacks buried in a mass grave during the civil war. Locals say the park was founded on the site where the church once stood.
Fancy fountains create a romantic mood. In the evening, lights are turned on, music is played. No wonder even the main registry office of the city is here. The park is an ideal place for walking with the whole family. It has a lot of greenery, there are neat benches for rest.
In front of the square there is a cinema, bowling, cozy restaurants.
