Ushkanya

Ushkanyi Island is one of the mysterious archipelagos of Baikal. It was also called “Baikal Diamonds”. The seal lives here and shamanic rites were held in ancient times, from which the locals consider this place forbidden. The islands are located in a protected, untouched by man zone of Transbaikalia. Ushkany Islands include 4 islands, which, although located close to each other, are completely different in their structure and vegetation.

Only one island is considered inhabited - Big Ushkaniy, it has meteorological equipment and a hunting lodge.

The other brothers of the island: Long, Round and Small are absolutely virgin natural place where the seal rules. Big Ushkaniy island is famous for the fact that it has three caves with traces of primitive man, whose age is supposedly 5 thousand years. You can get to the place by reaching the villages of Tataurova or Ilyinka and then cross the Selenga River on a toll crossing.
