Ascension Monastery is a male monastery in the city of Irkutsk. He's very, very old. The date of its construction is recognized by many as 1672. It was abolished in 1919. In 1933 a number of buildings were destroyed. There was only one church left.
The monastery was founded by Elder Gerasim. In the chapel of the monastery is his portrait.
At the moment, the building is included in the list of cultural heritage sites of the Russian Federation. The monastery itself is located near the bridge. It is located near the Assumption Church, which was not demolished in 33 AD.
The monastery is located on the bank of the Angara.
