Decembrists in Irkutsk.

Description:

Journey to
19th century. In the heart of Irkutsk - its historical center is located the estate of Decembrist Sergei Grigorievich Volkonsky. His family lived there until they returned home. Today it is a popular and beloved museum where you can get acquainted with the traditions and life of the exiled princely family.

The house is built in the traditions of noble mansions of the 19th century, but at the same time has elements of Siberian wooden architecture. On the ring enfilade, we will slowly walk through the rooms that remember the voices and steps of the owners and their numerous guests! We will be able to admire the Winter Garden, which reminded Princess Maria Nikolaevna, a native of the southern region of the homeland, we will visit the boudoirs of the hostess of the house and her daughter Nelly, we will go to the offices of the Decembrist Volkonsky and his son Misha, learn about the intricacies of noble etiquette in the dining room, see unique documents and books in the family library. And, of course, learn the story of the family.

The memorial relics of the Decembrists are the pride of the museum. We can hear the authentic sounds of the unique piano “Lichtenthal”, 1831, and a rare music box from Switzerland. There is also a unique pyramidal piano, the strings of which are located vertically, and the hammers are covered not with felt, but with leather, which makes the sound similar to the sound of a harpsichord. It is impossible to pass by the beaded embroideries of that time - very delicate work - horse hair was used instead of needles, so small are the holes in the beads!

I love this museum very much, it is hospitable and warm, and most of all I love the old mirrors in this house... there is a belief that they have a magical property – women looking in them become more attractive and fresh, and men are wiser.
