Old Tatar Sloboda

Old Tatar Sloboda in Kazan is a restored open-air museum. A walk through this colorful area brings to the atmosphere of the past years, when the Tatar population with their traditions and charter lived in this part of Kazan.

The route is completely pedestrian, in 1.5-2 hours you will see the historical part of the city, passing along a pedestrian street and Tatar estates with a guide.

The tour begins at a convenient time for you at the Kamala Theater (Tatarstan St., 1).

During the program, the guide will also show you places where you can buy souvenirs or taste national dishes after the tour, take a photo of you against the backdrop of beautiful Tatar estates.

You'll see:

• Ancient estates of Tatar merchants - most of the houses of the settlement are made of wood - in the traditions of the village estate, with a brick bottom and a complete absence of balconies and terraces facing the street.
  Almost all Tatar houses were built with pronounced features of national architecture, had motley painted pediments and high entrance gates with overhead decor in the form of: diamonds, squares, circles and vegetable ornaments.

• The Kamala Theatre is a Tatar State Academic Theatre named after playwright Galiasgar Kamal, built in 1986 as a sailboat moored to Lake Kaban and having a sky-blue roof.

• Lake Kaban is a system of three lakes (Lower, Middle and Upper Boar), 10 km long, stretched from north to south and connected by channels. This lake is associated with the legend of the Khan’s treasures, which did not go to Ivan the Terrible when taking Kazan. The secret of their location will be revealed to you on our tour.

• Tour of the Old Tatar Sloboda is a walking tour of the Tatar part of the city. Its cost depends on the number of people in the group, there will be no additional costs.
• It is individual, only for you or your group, we do not organize group tours, strangers do not join each other.

• If you do not live in the city center, we will help you call a taxi or suggest a place to park your car.
• The guide will answer all your questions, recommend cafes, restaurants, museums, take a picture of you and take into account all your wishes.
