The Lake of Satan

Urjumsky district, Kirov region

Description:

The lake is famous for its drifting islands, bushes and small trees. The lake is located in the southern part of the Urzhum district of the Kirov region. It is considered a monument of nature, and is also part of the reserve "Bushkovsky Forest". Satan has an oval shape, the area occupies about 2 hectares. Two kilometers away is the village of Indygoika. The shore is swampy.

The lake has karst wells, which cause the siphon circulation of groundwater, which leads to the formation of short-term fountains up to 10 meters or prolonged bubbling of water. During water emissions, there is a rise in the water level, which can provoke the separation of part of the coast with the formation of floating islands.
