Kirov

Monument to Stepan Khalturin

Russia, Kirov, square at the intersection of the street. Moskovsky Street. Kazan

Description:

The monument to the revolutionary worker Khalturin was erected in Kirov (at that time in Vyatka) in 1923 on the day of the celebration of the sixth anniversary of the socialist revolution. The erection of the sculpture was part of the monumental propaganda advanced by Lenin.

Stepan Nikolaevich Khalturin was born in the Vyatka province and became famous as a fearless revolutionary who participated in the preparation of the murder of a prosecutor in Odessa, where he was arrested and then executed. In addition to the monument in Kirov there is a street and a park named in his honor. Concrete sculpture depicts a revolutionary with a banner, ready to throw himself into battle for a new idea and a just state.

As under the Soviet regime, monuments to the Russian autocrats were eliminated, and after the collapse of the USSR, various post-revolutionary monuments were actively liquidated, so the preserved monument to Khalturin is very valuable not only in artistic terms, but also in historical terms.
