Kolomna

Kolomna monasteries and courtyards: the legends of ancient times

Description:

Kolomna is a longtime rival of Moscow. It is conveniently located at the confluence of the Moscow River into the Oka. This was a great advantage for the development of trade. And, at the same time, a significant disadvantage, since this way was used not only by merchants, but also by Tatars during raids. At such moments, the center of the political life of the Moscow principality moved to Kolomna: troops gathered here to fight off the Krymchaks, regiments flocked here to go to the Kulikovo field and to Kazan.

Our journey through time will begin at the walls of the Kolomna Kremlin. The largest and most powerful fortress of its

time. You will get acquainted with the history of the construction of the stone-brick fortress and see the preserved walls and towers of the Kremlin. You will find a fascinating story about the findings made during excavations on the territory of the Kremlin.

You will see the Cathedral Square, walk around the monastery, visit the Assumption Cathedral, as well as the Church of the Resurrection of the Word, where according to legend, Grand Duke Dmitry Donskoy was married. And in conclusion – inspection of the main gate of the Kremlin – Pyatnitsky.

Then we will walk along the quiet streets of Kolomna Posad. It's a completely different city.

space, immersing in the atmosphere of merchant Rus. We know what the smell is and what language we use.

Carved shutters talking. The history of Posad dates back more than nine centuries and we

Recalculate architectural epochs from one building to another. We will see the church “firebird” of the XVIII century, Dairy Square with a three-meter cast-iron “pool” and a real wooden, almost Trojan horse.

Let's take a lunch break.

Then we will meet with Staro-Golutvin and Bobrin monasteries. Given their ancient origin, the fourteenth century, they were originally not only quiet monasteries of monks, but also outposts guarding borders and trade routes. Together with other monasteries located on the Oka, they formed a defensive line against the Tatars, popularly called the “Belt of the Virgin”. Often, the Grand Dukes of Moscow, going on campaigns against the Tatars, visited the monastery.

Staro Golutvin Monastery stands in a strategically important place, at the confluence of the Moscow River and the Oka. It will meet us not only with golden domes, but also with an unusual fence with high Gothic towers erected by the famous architect Matvey Kazakov. We will learn why the architect built a monastery not in the center of the city, but on its outskirts, and what was the role of the "Abbot of the Russian Land" - Sergius of Radonezh in its creation. Learn the full ups and downs of the monastery.

And we will go to Bobrenev Monastery - a place of prayer for the soldiers who fell in the Battle of Kulikovo. It is located on the left bank of the Moscow River, opposite the Kolomna Kremlin. From the high monastic site we will admire the absolutely flat Moscow meadow and the panorama of the Kolomna Kremlin, admire the bold plans of the founders of the monastery. We will learn to whom the monastery owes its name, what its monks were famous for and how to get to the temple of the Singing Angels. The most revered shrine in this monastery is the Fedorovsk Icon of the Mother of God (18th century). The origin of the icon is shrouded in many legends, but the fact remains that its existence is accompanied by miracles and healing, it is miraculous.
