The Bobrenev Monastery is an ancient majestic temple located behind a Gothic fence surrounded by small one-storey houses in a quiet, provincial village. These are undulating fields cut by the winding Moscow River. The monastery itself, which stretches on its shores like a white swan or a majestic ship, or perhaps a grand prince’s crown, is located on a picturesque hill, and shines with its fence. the crowns of the temples, and legends like the wind blow over it.
You come to the monastery, and before you opens the picture of life here, and it seems that time has thrown you well at least a century, or even two, back. One or two-storey brick-wooden houses that surround the street lead directly to the monastery. Roosters and chickens, pecking garbage under their feet and rarely beggars in front of the gates of the monastery. So at other times it feels like a movie is being made here. You will enter a monastery and see a lonely monk clean the territory, sweeping away the fallen foliage.
The monastery was founded in 1381 on a vow made by Dmitry Donskoy’s associate, Dmitry Mikhailovich Bobrok-Volynets, on the eve of the Battle of Kulikovo. Over time, the Mother of God-Christmas Cathedral, a cell building, a fence are being built in the monastery. For fifty years the monastery was united with the Old Golutvin Monastery and was called Bobrenevo-Golutvin. In the Soviet years, the monastery fell into disrepair and only in 1989 began restoration work.
