Tourist route "Million Brides and Kolomna merchants".
Description:
I suggest you to get acquainted with the tourist route, which I gave an unusual name "Million Brides and Kolomna merchants". Choosing this route, we will plunge into the atmosphere of the 18-19 centuries. The old city retained the energy of that era. Let’s go to the streets and see what remains of Kolomna. Remember that merchants were not only rich, successful, enterprising, but also great workers and generous donors. It is the merchants who will turn Kolomna into a civilized city, with pavements, lighting and running water. At the heart of their charity was charity, because many merchants already had awards and titles, but continued to help those in need, glorifying themselves and their land with deeds, earning the honorary name “benefactor”, the word half-forgotten in modern society. Gradually, the memory of the merchants, builders of Kolomna, returns. A hundred years ago, merchants formed the “face” of my city, and the “face” was very pleasant! What buildings, what stories!!!
We will start the route with a typical merchant’s posad, where old houses are buried in gardens, every manor behind a fence with gates, and each gate is special, distinguished by its individuality. And above the roofs of the houses float numerous domes of churches. I will tell you about the brightest family clans of Kolomna merchants, their “victims” received a personal embodiment in our city, and we will get acquainted with these objects. The types of charity were so diverse that you will be pleasantly surprised to learn about the special generosity of the Kolomna merchants. Almost all the temples and monasteries of Kolomna were erected and rebuilt by merchants. On the route, we will get acquainted with 7 temples, in 2 of which we will go, see the interior decoration and learn their history. There on the way we will meet 2 old squares (Milk and Zhitnaya), crossing the Moskva River and the monument to Vodovoz, various estates of merchants, a pastile factory and an Old Believer church, a strange house and a Zemstvo hospital, the house of the writer Pilnyak and the Pottery Sloboda. We will symbolically end our excursion with the Church of the Epiphany, because in addition to the monuments of church art, the city gave the country Metropolitan Filaret, who was born here, besides this is the only temple not closed during the years of Soviet power, and it gives a real idea of what the churches of the time of interest to us, the time of generous charity, patriarchalism and Russian creativity looked like.
