Coat of arms of Kolomna

Description:

Do you know that the coat of arms of Kolomna is considered a unique phenomenon in Russian heraldry? It first appeared on March 8, 1730 in the collection of regimental banner coats of arms approved by the Governing Senate - Field Marshal Minich's "Banner Armor". The coat of arms of the city as the emblem of the Kolomna regiment was depicted on its company banners.

On December 20, 1781, according to the report of the Senate “On Approval of Emblems to the Cities of the Moscow Gubernia”, it was stated that “the city of Kolomna has an old coat of arms.” Catherine II wrote on the report “Being according to this,” and the coat of arms of Kolomna began to be considered the Highest approved: “On the Azure field on a green hill, thinly bordered with gold, a silver column crowned with a golden crown, accompanied by two golden six-pointed stars on the sides.”

In accordance with the traditions of Russian heraldry, the colors of the coat of arms of the city of Kolomna have the following meaning: azure is a symbol of beauty, softness, greatness. Green is a symbol of hope, joy, abundance, depicted by a mixture of colors of chromium and vegetable greens. Gold is a symbol of wealth, justice and generosity. Silver serves as a symbol of purity and innocence; the column (pillar) is an honorary heraldic figure, a symbol of greatness, strength, reliable support. Crown - serves as a symbol of secular power; Stars are a symbol of light, infinity, eternity, guiding, the struggle of light with darkness.

On March 16, 1883, another version of the Coat of Arms of Kolomna, developed by B. Kene, was approved: In the azure shield, a silver column on a green hill with a golden capital crowned with such a crown; the column is accompanied by two golden stars about six rays. In the free part - the coat of arms of Moscow. The shield is crowned with a silver tower crown with three teeth. Behind the shield are two cross-laying gold hammers connected by the Alexander ribbon.”

On the Zemstvo stamps of the Kolomna district of 1892, the coat of arms behind the column depicted the tools laid on the cross.

In the 1970s, a competition was held in the city to develop a new city coat of arms. The winner was architect V.V. Meshcheryakov. His coat of arms was approved by the city’s art council and city council. On April 22, 1980, the coat of arms of Kolomna was approved by the Council of People's Deputies with the following description: “The coat of arms is the shape of a shield. The upper part of the shield ends with seven teeth. In the center there is an ancient Russian military helmet with a barma. The helmet is surrounded by gears. In the upper right corner of the field there is a symbol of the Moscow Kremlin - an island tower with a five-pointed star. The number 1177 is the date of the first mention of the city. A helmet with a barma, the teeth of the walls of the Kolomna Kremlin characterize the city as a fortress of the ancient Russian state, rich in historical and architectural monuments. The gear symbolizes a modern industrial city, the main industry of which is mechanical engineering. The Moscow Kremlin Tower reflects the geographical location of the city southeast of Moscow. Three stripes are three rivers on which the city is located (Oka, Moscow and Kolomenka). At the same time, they can be perceived as three roads - to Moscow, Vladimir, Ryazan. The return of the historical symbol to the city took place on May 22, 2002, when the Council of Deputies of the city of Kolomna adopted a resolution on the coat of arms.
