In the Lithuanian city of Klaipeda will charge a tourist tax

Description:

In June, Klaipeda plans to introduce a tourist tax of €2 per day. The City Council will consider the issue on February 29.

Klaipeda is one of the largest ports in Lithuania. This cozy city attracts tourists with its beautiful beaches and unique historical sights.

The new fee will be aimed at improving infrastructure, reducing the seasonality of recreation, improving the quality of services. But there are exceptions: tourists who rent a room longer than a month, minors, treated and groups with a reservation of 10 rooms will be exempt from the tax.

The tax is estimated to bring in about €800,000 a year. Such a tax is already valid in other Lithuanian cities: in Vilnius, Trakai district, Palanga and Druskininkai (2 euros), in Kaunas (1 euros). In Birštonas, the fee is 2 euros per day for no more than 7 nights or 1 euro for 8 or more nights.

We will tell you about the places that are worth visiting in Klaipeda:

  • The Old Town is the historical center of the city, where you can walk along the narrow streets, see beautiful old buildings and visit museums.

  • The Museum of Marine Culture is a unique museum dedicated to the history of navigation and maritime traditions of Lithuania. Here you can learn a lot about marine life and the history of the port of Klaipeda.

  • Beaches – the city is located on the shore of the Baltic Sea, so there are beautiful beaches where you can relax or just enjoy beautiful views.

  • Klaipeda Castle is an ancient building that was built in the XVIII century and since then served as a fortress, prison and residence. Today there is a historical museum here.
