Little Kizil River
Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk region, Russia
Description:
Small Kizil is a river in the Russian Federation that flows in the Republic of Bashkortostan in the Chelyabinsk region. Translated from Turkic "kizil" means "red". The river was named so for the red hue of mountain deposits on the banks. The mouth of Small Kizil is 2172 kilometers on the right bank of the Ural River.
The length of the river is 113 kilometers. From above, the current has the character of a mountain river. The channel is quite rocky with a width of about 12 meters. In the middle course, the Little Kizil floodplain resembles the shape of a trapezoid. The right bank is mostly flat, and the left bank is steep. At the end of the XX century in the lower reaches of Little Kizil were made two artificial reservoirs. Currently, the river is used as a source of water, although the water of Little Kizil is characterized as very polluted with a critical level of pollution in terms of manganese content.
In winter, the river does not freeze on its many curves even in the strongest frosts. There is a risk of falling under the ice.
