Don Monastery: the history of the monastery
Description:
Excursion to the Don monastery with a visit to temples.
We will walk along Donskaya Street, the main street leading to the Donskoy Monastery. Along the way, we will remember the history of the monastery’s foundation, talk about the development of the district, see the unique temple of the Rise Position on the Donskoi.
Then we will walk along the fortress walls, marvel at the fortification architecture of the 17th century, learn the history of gate temples.
And then will be on the territory of the monastery, where during the walk we will learn in detail about the saints and shrines. You will learn about the Don Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, in honor of which the main cathedrals of the monastery are consecrated, you will learn about the feat of St. Tikhon, the Patriarch of All Russia, whose last years of life were spent in the Don monastery.
You will have the opportunity to visit the temples available at the time of the tour, where you will marvel at the safety of the interior decoration.
Free time is provided.
The necropolis is not included in the walk, we look only at the temples, tombs and high reliefs of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
