Figured gates" museum-reserve Tsaritsyno

Russia, Moscow, St. Dolskaya, 1.

Description:

Figured gates are part of the palace and park ensemble of the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve, which is located in the south of Moscow. This work of landscape art and architecture appeared with the light hand of Empress Catherine II in 1776, who ordered the ennobling of the territory around the complex of palace buildings. The entire ensemble is part of the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve, which was founded in 1984.

The name of the Figured Gate is closely associated with its intricate decor and bizarre forms. Previously, these gates were known as “Vineyards” due to the exquisite white-stone patterns inside the pointed arch, which are slightly similar in shape to a bunch of grapes. Until the beginning of the XIX century, the building was decorated with four white-stone decorative vases, two statues of Cupids and two ceramic sculptures of pug dogs.
