Tsaritsino Manor

Description:

On the outskirts of Moscow is one of my favorite parks in Moscow – Tsaritsyno.
Once this estate, which belonged to the princes Cantemirs, associates of Peter I, acquires Empress Catherine II. She called these places “Paradise Existing”.

On her orders, the construction of the palace begins. Architect Vasily Bazhenov for 10 years puts all his efforts to please the crowned customer, but... Catherine II did not like the Bazhenov complex. She orders him to break it and build a new one in its place.

Gives an order to Bazhenov's student - Matvey Kazakov. And again, 10 years of construction end in collapse – the Empress dies, and her son Pavel Petrovich stops financing the construction. A complex story with an almost detective story unfolds before us.

We will see the architectural ensemble from the buildings of Bazhenov and Kazakov of the 18th century, as well as the palace of Catherine restored by Yuri Luzhkov, which is a “compromise” in the dispute between the two great architects.
On the tour we will find out:

  • The history of the village of Black Dirt, which Catherine renamed Tsaritsyno.
  • Let’s touch the design of Vasily Bazhenov’s architecture – he left many mysteries on the facades among the decorative elements.
  • Let’s try to guess the purpose of some buildings, because Bazhenov’s documents do not have clear definitions for each building.
  • We will find out whether the Masons and Masonic symbols that caused Bazhenov’s removal are involved in this story.
  • Further history of the estate after the death of Catherine - it was a country village, communal apartments, and museum buildings.
