Water tower
ooh Soviet, 9-10, Murom, Vladimir region, Russia
Description:
The water tower in the central part of Murom was built in the summer of 1863 on the initiative of the mayor A.V. Ermakov. It was connected to a water pump standing on the bank of the Oka using pipes. In the city quarters, water-disposal booths were built, which served to collect water. Initially, the water tower provided eight fountains.
In the late XIX - early XX centuries, the ninth fountain was erected, and in 1914 it was planned to build the tenth. But, unfortunately, the implementation of this project was prevented by the First World War. Making sure that the water tower copes with its duties, Ermakov in 1864 organized the grand opening of the city water supply. By his decision, residents could use water from the fountains for free. In 1913, a major restoration of the water tower was carried out, on which about 7 thousand rubles were spent.
The water tower ceased to perform its functions in the 1930s, as the water passing through it ceased to comply with sanitary and hygienic standards. Nowadays, the building attracts tourists as a monument of architecture and history.
