Murom Historical and Art Museum
Vladimir region, Murom, street. 13 Moskovskaya
About the company:
Murom Museum is one of the largest in the Vladimir region. It was opened on January 1, 1919. Since 2007, the museum is a regional cultural institution, in 2009 it was awarded the status of a particularly valuable object of cultural heritage of the Vladimir region.
The museum has more than 90,000 storage units. The collection is based on the collections of famous Russian archaeologists Count A.S. Uvarov and his wife P.S. Uvarova, Murom lovers and collectors of antiquities I.S. Kulikov, N.G. Dobrynkin, A.F. Zhadin.
The exhibition center of the museum occupies the former house of Golubev merchants. This is one of the most beautiful houses in Murom. The central part of the main southern facade is highlighted by 6 columns of the Ionic Order and 2 high porches separated by an arch leading to the courtyard. Looking at the Ascension Church, the western facade is unusual due to the insertion of three-arched Venetian windows into the traditional grid of rectangular window openings for Murom.
Now the exhibition center of the museum houses permanent expositions "Treasures of Ancient Murom" (unique and most valuable exhibits of ancient Russian art, reflecting the originality of the culture of medieval Murom), "City and citizens" (covers the period of the city's history from the end of the XVII to the beginning of the XX century) and 1-2 temporary exhibitions.
