The temple was built in 1854-1859 on the site of a burned wooden church at the expense of the Elabuga merchant Ivan Ivanovich Stakheev. The building was built according to the exemplary project of Constantine Thon in the Byzantine style - during the reign of Emperor Nicholas I.
