Evraz - Nakhodka Commercial Sea Port

town of Nakhodka, Primorsky Krai

Description:

The seaport Evraz appeared in Nakhodka in 1939. Previously, in its place was the Vladivostok commercial and fish port. The new port was built by the hands of a prisoner from the Gulag. In 1942, their work was continued by the NKVD unit. Construction was protracted, because the coastal zone on which the port should stand was entirely dotted with rocks. TNT explosions were used to clear the area. Splintered huge boulders and stones in hand were transported on wheelbarrows and dumped into the sea. Before the war of 1942 in the seaport managed to build an oil depot, workshops, a concrete plant and laid a highway. On the coast, wooden scaffolds were temporarily made, on which cargo was manually transported to ships. A little later, the appropriate equipment was imported.

Today, Evraz is considered the most successful enterprise of Primorsky Krai. More than 5,000 workers work there. The annual turnover is over two billion rubles.
