Oh. Nakhodka

Nakhodka is a city in the Russian Federation in the Primorsky Territory, located 169 km east of Vladivostok. The population is 155.8 thousand people. The most ancient settlements found by archaeologists in the Nakhodka region belong to the Paleolithic era and date back to 10-40 thousand years BC. The largest accumulation of settlements was found in the area of the Brat and Sister hills. In 1855, English maps marked Gornet Bay.

This name was given to the bay during the expedition of English ships. On June 17, 1859, the steamship corvette "America" - one of the ships of the Siberian Flotilla - anchored two miles from the same shore. The next day, the navigator N. Krasilnikov made a historical entry in the watch journal: At 6 o'clock they were removed from the anchor, and went to the shore, noticed a depression and opened the bay, which has a position from northeast to southwest about 3 miles, a width of 1 to 1.5 miles, the depths are everywhere equal: from 5 to 4 sazhens, soil - silt with sand, on the right and left bank two villages. By order of His Excellency (Governor-General of Eastern Siberia Count N.N. Muravyov-Amursky), this bay is called Nakhodka. In 1860, hydrographer V.M. Babkin on the Vostok schooner, making a topographic survey of the coast from Olga Bay to the Korean border, opened a raid, which he named in honor of his teacher Berngard Wrangel. Thus, new geographical names - America Bay, Nakhodka Bay, Wrangel Raid, were applied in 1860 on the reporting map of the coast of the Primorsky region of Russia.

At the beginning of 1866 in St. Petersburg began to consider the issue of settling the southern part of the Primorsky region. The population of the department consisted of immigrants from Finland, residents of the villages of Vladimirovka and Alexandrovka, hired Chinese workers and Cossacks sent for protection. Residential houses, 15 shops, a sawmill, a mill, warehouses were built. Due to a number of difficulties, the factory was closed. For more than 20 years, there was no permanent settlement on the shores of the Gulf of America. But the advance of civilization to the Far East continued. The opening of railways and sea routes only contributed to this.

In 1884, the villages of Unashi, Golubovka, Novitskoe were founded. In 1886, Catherine appeared. In 1895, Otto Lindholm’s dacha was built on Cape Astafiev. In 1907, on the banks of the Kamenka River, a permanent settlement arose, giving rise to the modern city of Nakhodka - the village of Americana. The American was founded by 35 families of immigrants from Chernihiv province. The population of the village of Lagoneshty was immigrants from Bessarabia, Belarus, Ukraine, Estonia. On the farm Vyzygow (the region of Lake Ritsa), Korean families lived together with the settlers. In the area of modern Leninskaya settled native of the Baltic Germans Eckerman, who was engaged in the trade of vegetables with foreign ships entering the bay. The Korean ethnic settlement of Don Ho Don occupied the southern tip of Nakhodka Bay and consisted of 30 fanzas.

From the first days of its existence, Nakhodka became the center of international communication. Every year, up to 700 foreign ships under the flags of 20 countries stood at the berths of the commercial port. Portsmen were the first in establishing twinning relations with the cities of the Pacific basin. And now Nakhodka has seven sister cities in different countries of the world: Maizuru, Tsuruga, Otaru (Japan), Auckland and Bellingham (USA), Dong He (Korea) and Girin (China). Today Nakhodka is an important center of economic cooperation between Russia and the countries of the Pacific coast. It is not only the largest sea harbor, but also the final point of the Trans-Siberian Railway. The main volume of foreign trade traffic between Russia and the countries of the Asia-Pacific region is carried out through the ports of the city, almost the entire railway transit. The transcontinental container line Asia – Europe originates here.
