A legend named Gorky

Excursion to places related to the life of the most famous Nizhny Novgorod Maxim Gorky. In Nizhny Novgorod spent 28 of his 68 years of life. From 1932 to 1990, the city bore his name.

The estate of grandfather Vasily Vasilyevich Kashirin has been preserved, in the wing of which Alyosha Peshkov was born in March 1868. Also preserved is another house of his grandfather, where the Museum "Kashirina House" is now located. It was in it that the dramatic events described by Gorky in the autobiographical novel “Childhood” unfolded.

You will find yourself near the houses where the future writer lived in people.

Visit the former Kanatnaya Street, in a protected corner of the old wooden Nizhny Novgorod, and you will see the house where in 1900 the writer lived with his wife Ekaterina Pavlovna Peshkova and son Maxim. There was born the daughter of the writer - Katenka. There were friends - Fyodor Ivanovich Chaliapin and Anton Pavlovich Chekhov.

You will see the building of the prison, in the tower of which Alexei Maksimovich was imprisoned.

Gorky left his hometown in early 1904. He was waiting for Moscow, St. Petersburg, America, the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy and world fame. In this other life, he left the Kirschbaum estate. Now we have the museum-apartment of A.M. Gorky with its authentic things, furniture and authentic furnishings.

Interest in the personality of Gorky not only did not fade after his death in 1936, but flared up even more. On the square named after him, you will see a monument to the writer by the sculptor-monumentalist Vera Ignatievna Mukhina, installed in 1952.

A 3-hour tour of Gorky places exists in two versions - on foot and by transport.

The walking tour does not include the house of grandfather Alyosha Peshkov - "Kashirina House".
