Mysteries of Zapochainha
Description:
In the center of Nizhny Novgorod there is an area where the same type of high-rise buildings made of silicate bricks close from human eyes the chambers of the XVII century. There are not so many chambers left in Russia, built by aristocrats and merchants from eternal large-dimensional brick - hardly seventeen can be counted throughout the country. And three of them are preserved in Nizhny Novgorod, in the ancient district of Zapochainya!
You'll see:
- Chambers of the merchant Chatygin, where Peter I stayed;
- the building of the leather factory of the merchant Pushnikov on the former Telyachaya Street;
- The only architectural ensemble preserved in Russia is the chambers of merchant Athanasius Olisov and the Assumption Church built by him in 1672, the top of which is shaped like a baptized barrel of four persons;
- Sergievsky Church, painted on the sketches of the great Russian artist Mikhail Nesterov;
- The best views of the Arrow - the merger of the Oka and the Volga.
You will know:
- What did Peter I do in Nizhny Novgorod when he came in 1695 and 1722?
- Who were the inhabitants of the ancient chambers?
- What is the secret of the strength of the brick of the XVII century?
- How did they make tiles and why were they valued?
- What dramatic events unfolded in the house of the future writer's grandfather Maxim Gorky, now the Museum "Kashirin House"?
This will be discussed on the excursion "Secrets of Zapochainya".
