Station Novosibirsk-main

Description:

After the completion of the construction of the Ob railway station on the right bank of the river of the same name, the movement of trains began. Soon this station will be renamed Novosibirsk.

Since the cargo turnover of the station grew not by days, but by hours, the station building had to be constantly improved. In the middle of the 20th century it was decided to build a new station building. At first, the architecture of the building was supposed to become concise, and in its spatial solution it would be possible to guess the image of a speeding locomotive. But after laying the foundation, the architectural appearance began to cause doubts. In this regard, a competition was held to develop the facades of the station.

In 1939, the station began to let those who came and went under its arches. Since then, the building has been slightly expanded, and now Novosibirsk-Main can accommodate up to 3.9 thousand passengers.

In addition to architectural elements, the station is remarkable for the monuments that are located on its territory. In a glass hangar on the west side stands a model of a steam locomotive that worked in the 1840s. On the facade of the building you can see 2 tablets. The text on one of them says that Lenin stayed here, following to the village of Shushenskoye. And on the other, that during the Great Patriotic War from this station Siberians went to the front.
