Maxim Gorky Drama Theatre
Russia, Orenburg, 26 Sovetskaya Street
About the company:
Orenburg Drama Theatre named after Maxim Gorky is located in the very center of the city of Orenburg, on Soviet Street. The history of the theater dates back to the middle of the nineteenth century, when theater troupes begin to regularly come to Orenburg with tours. Initially, they perform on a temporary stage arranged in a stone building of the arena. In 1868, after a significant reconstruction, the building was transferred to the theater in permanent possession.
The next major reconstruction of the theater falls on the second half of the forties of the twentieth century. In the architectural appearance of the building were introduced elements of the Doric order - a portico with a colonnade, the pediment is decorated with theater masks. The windows of the former arena are closed with rounded niches. Interestingly, the reconstruction by architects Avakumov and Postnikov was carried out by German prisoners of war.
The building took on its present appearance after another reconstruction in 2006, when an extension in the same style, with a rounded portico and topped with a glass dome, was added to the building on the north-west side.
Today, the theater under the leadership of Rifkat Israfilov offers the audience a wide repertoire of modern and classical plays and tours a lot.
