Excursion Ostashkov + Nilov Desert

Description:

Ostashkov and Nilov Deserts: A Journey Through the Ages.

We invite you to discover the pearls of Seliger - the city of Ostashkov and the legendary monastery of Nilov Deserts. This is not just an excursion, but a real journey through time: from ancient legends to the merchant’s heyday, from spiritual tradition to natural harmony.

Immerse yourself in history:

Ostashkov is a city with a rich merchant tradition, first mentioned in the chronicles in 1371 (Klichen). Ancient temples and mansions have been preserved here, and stunning views of Lake Seliger open from the embankment. You will walk along the streets, where merchants and tanners once rushed to bargain, see architectural monuments of the XVIII-XIX centuries and feel the spirit of the ancient Russian city.

Nilov Desert is the spiritual center of the Tver region, founded in 1594 on the island of Stolbny in honor of the Monk Nile Stolobensky. The monastery was a place of pilgrimage of Russian emperors and aristocracy, representatives of the Romanov dynasty prayed here. Over the centuries, the monastery has experienced a heyday, closure in Soviet times and revival in the 1990s. Today it is an active monastery where centuries-old traditions are carefully preserved. In the Nile Desert, all buildings are pre-revolutionary. Everything has survived since then.

Seliger is an ancient lake of glacial origin with more than 160 islands, known since the IX century. Its name has Finno-Ugric roots and, according to one version, means “transparent, rugged lake”. The water of Seliger is famous for its purity, and the landscapes are famous for the amazing harmony of the forest, water and sky. Each island has its own name and history.
